Collaborating for Success
Collaborating for Success in Vocational Education and Training (VET) – Swedish perspective!
What’s the key ingredient for successful collaboration between industry and VET? It’s COMMITMENT. And the many participants from across Europe—Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Czechia, Finland, France, and more—truly demonstrated this commitment in practice.

On December 3, 2024, the Voltage Project hosted the webinar “Collaborate with Success – Teknikcollege,” highlighting the crucial role of partnerships between schools and industries in vocational education. The session focused on the Teknikcollege model from Sweden, which integrates hands-on learning with real-world industry needs. The discussion explored collaboration at international, national, and regional levels, emphasizing how these partnerships can bridge the gap between education and the labor market.
Key Topics Discussed:
- Teknikcollege Model: The model’s success in aligning education with industry was showcased, with examples of regional internship collaborations where students gain practical, industry-relevant experience.
- Industry Involvement: Panelists highlighted the need for schools to align their curricula with the skills demanded by industries, especially in fast-evolving sectors like battery manufacturing.
- Skills Gaps: The growing gap in skills for emerging technologies like batteries and AI was discussed, stressing the importance of cross-border collaboration to develop a workforce equipped for these new challenges.
Audience Engagement:
Participants shared concerns about funding and inconsistent industry engagement as key obstacles in adopting Teknikcollege’s practices. These points were echoed during presentations, particularly regarding the need for better training infrastructure.
Practical Takeaways:
- Effective Partnerships: Successful collaborations between schools and industries are essential. For example, Nösnäs Gymnasiet’s partnership with the chemical cluster in Stenungsund offers students hands-on industry experience.
- Hands-On Learning: Integrating internships and workplace training is critical. Lindholmens Tekniska Gymnasiet offers company-based education, where a significant part of the curriculum is conducted directly in actual industrial environments.
- Curriculum Flexibility: Schools need to adapt quickly to meet industry demands. Teknikcollege’s model demonstrates how curricula can evolve to keep up with technological advancements.
- Investing in Infrastructure: Schools require support to upgrade training equipment.
The webinar concluded with a call for continued collaboration to strengthen VET programs, ensuring they are equipped to meet future industry challenges.
