Mapping of European Validation Models

The Mapping of European Validation Models report provides a structured analysis of existing competence frameworks, self-assessment tools and validation systems relevant to the European battery sector. Developed under Work Package 2, the report establishes an analytical foundation for strengthening validation and cross-border recognition of skills within this strategic industrial ecosystem.

As the European battery value chain expands in response to the green and digital transitions, ensuring that competences are consistently defined, assessed, validated and recognised across countries becomes increasingly critical. This report maps sectoral, national and European reference frameworks, including transversal digital and green competence models, and analyses existing tools for skills assessment, validation and credentialing.

The findings demonstrate that Europe already possesses many essential building blocks for a robust validation ecosystem. However, the analysis identifies structural fragmentation, uneven value chain coverage and limited interoperability across systems. The report therefore outlines evidence-based design principles to support the development of a coherent, interoperable and complementary European validation approach, without duplicating or replacing national systems.

Within this context Voltage acts as a pilot environment for operationalising stronger alignment between sectoral competence structures, national validation mechanisms and European digital credential infrastructures. The battery sector is positioned as a potential model domain for advancing structured European validation solutions that enhance workforce mobility, industrial competitiveness and skills transparency.
